June 10, 2019

Hi all!

Thank you everyone for all the kind messages, cards, flowers, and gifts during this difficult time. I very much appreciated everything! I am glad to be back into the class with the kiddies!

1. In regards to homework, I am only going to ask that you read with your child for 10-15 minutes a night. I am not sending home math practice.

2. Tomorrow is the School Fun Day Activity outside. Grade 2 English will be outside from 10:55 - 12:05. Please make sure kids are properly dressed, has hats, and sunscreen so they don't burn! Children are asked to dress up like an animal for the day, whether they wear the favourite colour of their animal, or they wear a shirt with an animal on it, they are encouraged to do so!

3. Just a reminder for parents to pay their school fee at Stratford Elementary. If you have not, you will be responsible for buying your own supplies. A list will be sent home with report cards for those students that did not pay their fee.

4. On June 17, at 12:45, Grade 2 teachers and students will be going over to Stratford Elementary to visit the school.

5. There are still people who have not handed in their permission forms and $15.50 for Shining Waters that was due in May. Please get that in as soon as possible, as we go next Thursday, June 20. If you do not pass in your form, your child will not be able to attend.

6. I will have more information for the parents volunteering for the field trip to Shining Waters, later in the week. Thanks for your patience!

7. On, June 24 we have the Grade 2 closing assembly at 11:00 in the gym. Parents are encouraged to attend.

I think I have covered everything. If there is any questions do not hesitate to email or call!

May 21, 2019

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Here are a few notes:

1. Our Spring Fling is fast approaching! This fun family event is one of our school's largest fundraisers and will be taking place on June 7th. Each grade level will be assembling raffle baskets. We are asking that each student contribute one or two dollars and then the grade 2 teachers will shop to fill the baskets. At the Spring Fling, children/parents are able to purchase tickets on the baskets. Please send a loonie or toonie in by Friday, May 24th.

2. The Grade 2's will be having a closing ceremony on June 24. More information to follow.

3. Some people still have not handed in permission forms and money for Shining Waters June 20. Please do so ASAP.

4. I am out three days next week. the 28, 29, and 30. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything. If you need a bus pass, or send a note that your child is being picked up, etc, you can call the office. The children are looking forward to having Mrs. Corney in!

5. From the of office:

  • Please remind parents that school fees are due ($40).  Fees must be paid by the end of May or parents will be required to purchase them on their own.
  • Due to the number of students on our buses, requests for bus notes for an alternate bus for after school activities and playdates will not be granted.
I think that is all for now!

May 11, 2019

Hi all!

I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!

Here are a few notes:

1. Thank you for all your support to make the spring concert a success. I know it wasn't east to find clothing, and accessories, but the children looked great and did an amazing job with their performances! I am so proud of them all!

2. Field Trip forms and money for Shining Waters is due Thursday, May 16. Thank you for those who have already sent it in. :)

3. So far, I only have one volunteer that has offered to come with us. In order for us to be able to go to Shining Waters I will need 4-5 more parents willing to come with us.

  • You need to email me to know you are interested.
  • You need a criminal record check completed in order to go.
  • Before you go to the RCMP to get your criminal record check, you need to come to the school, or email me to get a cover letter from the school.
  • You have to provide your own transportation.
It is always a wonderful experience. I know in other years that volunteers have went, they have thoroughly enjoyed it!

4. I know we are coming to the end of the year, and the weather is starting to get nicer!
I still encourage you to have your child read to you every night for 10 minutes, and to complete the homework sheets I send home for the week! I know some days are tough, and life is busy.

That's all for now.

May 2, 2019

Hi all!

I haven't been posting on here lately, as many of you do not read this, and I send out weekly emails to the group.

1. There is a typo on the Spring Concert tickets. They say that the day is Tuesday, May 8. It is actually Wednesday, May 8.

2. On concert night, please have the children here between 5:30-5:45 and bring them to their classroom. We will keep them down here before and during the concert.

3. Like I said in the email, there will be 2 afternoon tickets, and 2 evening tickets for each student. If you are not using your tickets, please send them back, as I have already had numerous requests for extra tickets for the evening concert, and I have to wait to see what tickets come back before I can give those families an answer.

4. Today, or Monday I will be sending home permission forms for our year end field trip to Shining Waters. There is a fee of $15.50 that is due, along with the permission form, by May 16.

5. I am going to be looking for 6-7 volunteers for the tear end field trip to supervise a small group throughout the day. You would need to provide your own transportation, and have a current criminal record on file with the school board. If you are interested, and need to go through the criminal record check process, let me know!

6. In Reader's Workshop, we are working on Comparing and Contrasting. In Writer's Workshop, we will be moving into Procedural Writing. We will also be starting to work on Science and the life cycles. In wordwork, we are finishing up with contractions.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to email, call or text.
I will email this to you all as well.

Hi all!
It was so nice to see each and every one of you last week to discuss all the amazing things your children have been doing!

Sorry I am late getting onto the blog. I have not been feeling the greatest, and I have an ongoing family emergency that has needed my attention.

1. It is French week! Tomorrow we will be celebrating by wearing the french colors, red. blue, yellow, and white! We will also be having a discussion about the Acadiens, and the French community here on Prince Edward Island.

2. I did not send book orders home, due to the book fair last week. If you would like to receive those book orders, please let me know, and I will send them home.

3. On Friday, it is Spirit Week - dress in Green for St. Patrick's Day.

4. We as a class will be having a pajama day on Friday, as I received a very well written persuasive letter telling us why we deserved one from one of the students! We will also be inviting 2C over for a movie that afternoon! Great way to relax before heading into March Break.

5. For wordwork this week. we are focusing on puncuation, and upper and lower case letters in words. In math, we are working on double digit subtraction, and word problems. In writing, we are finishing up persuasive/opinion writing. In Reader's Workshop, we are working on summarizing using Somebody Wanted But So Then, as students needed a refresher.

6. I hope you all have a wonderful March Break!

Saturday, February 9,2019

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

Here are a few notes about our week and upcoming dates:

1.
            -      February 12 - I will be sending a note home on Monday to let you know about a BIG writing project that the Grade 2 English group are heading up.

  • PLEASE DO NOT TELL THE CHILDREN AS IT IS A SURPRISE!!!
  • We are working closely with the Island Storm to show the children how powerful their writing can be. It will start on this day.
  • Volunteers will come in from the basketball team, and read the children a persuasive story. They will generate a discussion about a time they persuaded someone to do something and how they had to have good reasons in order to do so. Then they will ask the children if they would like to come to a game.
  • They will then have to write me a letter to "persuade me" to take them to the game.
  • The Island Storm have been generous enough to provide us with a ticket for each child, as well as 1 ticket for a parent/guardian for Sunday, March 3.
  • There will be more details to come! I am so excited about this opportunity for the children!

-          February 14 is a school spirit day. It is a very busy day in Grade 2B.
  •      We are asking student to wear pink or red.
  •      In the morning, we will be having a volunteer that specializes with micro:bits, and coding. The students will be using this hands on tool, to aid in technology, and to make coding easy, fun, and accessible.
  •       In the afternoon, we will be having our Valentine's Day party, as well as a board game afternoon, as the children chose that as their reward for filling the jar with marbles. I am asking that if people could bring some board games that would be great, as I do not have many at all.
  •       If you need a list of names, send me an email. I sent them home in homework bags, but some students were absent, and others did not have their bag. Let me know and I will send one along.
  •       If you would like to bring in a treat, or drink for the afternoon, please feel free.

-          February 20 is 100 day.
  •      We are asking students to dress like they are 100 years old.
  •       This will be the second visit from Island Storm, just checking in to see how the student's writing is going.

-          February 18 is Islander Day and there will be no school.

-          February 19-25 – We are asking parents to complete the OurSchool Online Survey from the Department of Education.  The link will be sent to parents on the 19th.

-     February 21 - Parents are able to start signing up for Parent Teacher Interviews.

-          February 27 is pink shirt day.

2. Our word work for the next couple of weeks is going to focus on "No excuse Grade 2 Words".  These words are words that your children should be able to spell by the end of Grade 2. I have noticed in their writing, that some are still struggling writing these high frequency words, and we are going to be practicing them over the next couple of weeks. If you would work with your children on them at home as well that would be great!

          1. was
          2. because
          3. right
          4. were
          5. every
          6. went
          7. yesterday
          8. who
          9. could
          10. what
          11. house
          12.  have

3. If I have not sent homework books home with your child, and you are seeing other books, please continue to read those books with your children for 10-15 minutes a night. If they have brought home a chapter book, just let them read a chapter or two a night, discuss it, and when the book is completed, your child can bring it back and trade it in. Even if it is during the middle of the week.

4. Book Orders will be due on Thursday, February 14.

5. Thank you for all of your hard work with your children at home with doing their homework! I truly appreciate it. the home support is so lovely to have, and makes a huge difference in your child's learning, even though it is just a little bit a night! Again, thank you!
